Directive Systems 9112LYK

The 9112LYK antenna is supplied in kit form only and represents a great way to get maximum gain on 3456 MHz without using a high wind area parabolic dish. The 9112LY will outperform a 30" dish.  At the Microwave Update Conference in Enfield, CT. a quad array of 9112LYs were tested on the antenna range and delivered some incredible numbers. Measurement equipment to obtain the gain figures included an HP 8753D network analyzer and associated test antennas. The 9112LY quad array was built up with UT-141 phasing lines and a three quarter wave power divider. Measured gain was 31.3 dBd or 33.4 dBi at 3456.0 MHz. We are not entirely sure, but think that this represents the most gain that has EVER been obtained from yagi type antennas. To put things in perspective, the W5UN 144 MHz EME array delivered about 30 dBd.

This quad array handily beat out a 30" dish with about 7.7 dB more gain than the dish!! A 30" dish on 3456 is a great performer in its' own right with about 25.7 dBi of gain. The measured gain of the 9112LY quad array is the equivalent of a 6 ft dish with 50% efficiency.  The only difference between the dish and the quad loopers would be the first sidelobe will be higher than that of a correctly illuminated dish. In "horizon shot" microwave amateur work, (as opposed to EME) higher 1st sidelobes can be a positive factor when trying to find a weak station.  Oh wait, there is another difference, the six ft dish would have almost 30 square feet of wind area. The four 9112LY antennas and frame have about 6 square feet of wind area.

Some specifications:

Construction utilizes a 0.50" boom of 6063-T832 alloy with a sturdy sub boom made of 3/4" square x 1/8" wall aluminum . The sub boom is 72" long and there is approximately 36" of the main boom unsupported at each end of the boom. This provides a sturdy support that will withstand very heavy ice loading. It is similar to the support arrangement on the 2304 MHz Blowtorch, the 1376LY, which has proven to be an ice storm survivor.
